Hunton attorneys publish steering on adjustments to China’s privateness legal guidelines

Hunton lawyers Dora Luo and Yanchen Wang recently released a new guide for OneTrust DataGuidance on China’s data protection laws.

The guide provides an overview of the most recent changes in Chinese data protection laws. Topics include the 2016 Cybersecurity Act, the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China (in Chinese) and the People’s Republic of China Data Protection Act (in Chinese), and the Personal Data Protection Act (in Chinese). Together, the changes to the law represent the creation of a comprehensive law for the protection of personal data in China. The guide provides an overview of the relevant legal texts, their scope and the responsible regulatory and data protection authorities. The guide also contains important definitions and principles for legal bases, obligations of controllers and processors, rights and penalties for data subjects within the unique Chinese data protection landscape.
