The lifetime of a deceased can’t be negotiated
The Allahabad High Court ruled a matter relating to a woman who died within two months of her marriage.
An FIR was registered by the mother of the victim against the husband and his family on dowry charges and her testimony was recorded.
In the course of the criminal proceedings, the court was made aware that the deceased’s father had accepted the amount of Rs. 2 lakhs in return for exonerating the defendant.
The court took the view that the court could not be made a party to the compromise because of a compromise between the parties.
The court ruled: “The life of the deceased is not so cheap as that which could be negotiated between two people.”
